TRAIL CONDITION REPORT WILL BE POSTED AND UPDATED AS CONDITIONS CHANGE.

(Posted 03/08/10 @ 8PM) ALL LANGLADE & FOREST COUNTY TRAILS ARE CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. The TPSC TrailBoss, Board Members & Officers would like to thank all the groomer drivers for all your hard work making our trail system one of the best in the State!

(Posted 03/08/10 @ 8PM) Langlade County Recreation Coordinator Tammy Kubiaczyk called it a wrap today on what she termed one of the best snowmobile season in her tenure.

“It was just an excellent season,” Kubaczyk said, announcing that the trails are closed effective immediately. “It has been one of the best since I started.”

On Thursday Kubiaczyk closed the trails in the central and southern parts of Langlade County due to deteriorating conditions, but trails in the wooded, northern regions remained open through the weekend.

“We wanted to give everyone one last chance to ride,” she said. “I can’t say they had good conditions everywhere.”

Kubiaczyk cited several reasons for the season’s success. Chief among them was the seasonal temperatures of this winter, with no sudden thaws to deteriorate trails in January or early February as is often the case.

“We had a long steady season,” she said.

She also credited the work of area snowmobile clubs which had their groomers working long hours to assure good conditions.

The county-wide system was open a total of 63 days, with the wooded areas in operation 71 days. That’s about average, Kubiaczyk said, and certainly better than some years, such as 2006-07, when the entire system was only able to be opened for 16 days, with the wooded areas open 55 days.

Some years can stretch well into springtime. In 1996-97, the system was in operation 103 days, from Dec. 19 to April 1.

The season extended even further in April in 1995-96, when trails in the northern areas remained in use until April 8. Few would deny it was time to put the sleds away after that.

Trails are also closed as of today in Lincoln and Forest counties. To the north, the trails remain open, but in only poor conditions in Price and Oneida counties. Apparently things get better farther to the north, with some trails reported in fair condition in Vilas County.

(Posted 03/04/10 @ 5PM) All good things must come to an end — and that’s just what is happening to Section "B" of the Langlade County snowmobile trails

Tammy Kubiaczyk, the county’s recreation coordinator, announced this morning that the snowmobile trails south of Highway I and west of Highway S are closed immediately.

She added that with temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s, the condition of trails in the northern part of the county may be closed without much notice.

“Be sure to use caution when riding,” she said, noting that standing water is on the trails and there are some bare spots.

“We had an excellent winter for snowmobiling,” Kubiaczyk said announcing the partial closing.

She explained that the arrival of the warmer weather this March is a little ahead of a year ago, when the entire system was closed on March 11 and the fields on March 9.

Kubiaczyk said the current season is far better than during a number of winters in the decades of the trail system, considered one of the finest in the state of Wisconsin.

“Our snowmobile clubs have done an excellent job, again,” she said, predicting that if there is not a dramatic shift in the weather, the end may be near for the entire 500-mile plus network of trails.

Again, the section that is now closed is Section "B", it does NOT effect the Tombstone Pickerel Trails, as of yet...

(Posted 02/28/10@ 10:25PM) I rode about 75 miles yesterday morning and it was pretty good!! In the afternoon it got warmer and the sun came out leaving the trails a little sloppy in late afternoon. The late night groomers were out smoothing things out and dragging snow back onto the trails, unfortunately it didn't get as cold as predicted. This morning it looked like we were going to get some snow, but quickly fizzled out, eventually turning into a very fine mist for a short time. Tonight we have a slight chance of snow. Monday high of 32* and another slight chance of snow. Tuesday high of 34* and sun.

(Posted Thurs. Feb. 23, 2010 @ 7:25 P.M.) We did lose some snow with last weekends warmer temps. not to mention we had moderate to heavy sled traffic over the weekend. Some corners may be bare to icy, but the groomers have been out trying to get them covered. It did snow a little today, maybe 1" and it is snowing again now as I post. Total accumulation expected is around the 2" mark. Tonight is supposed to be a low of 4* so if the weather predictions are correct, we should be able to sqeek another weekend in of riding! Trails are currently rated as mainly good.

(Posted 02/20/10 @ 6:45 PM) Rode north and east of Pickerel. Trails conditions were good, but the trail between Tipler to Three Lakes needs more snow. The trails around Hiles, the 100 miler, and the TPSC trails were good. The TPSC groomers are out tonight 02/20/2010. Enjoy the snow because the days are getting longer and the snow is getting thinner.

(Posted Thurs. 02/18/10 @ 7:40 PM) I went out for a nice ride yesterday and the TPSC trails were in good to very good condition! Today it got warm and sunny out, it was 36* at 4:30 PM. On my way home from work tonight I noticed the trails that cross roads were getting snirty but ones that ran parallel with the roads looked pretty good yet... Tonight's low is approx. 13* and groomers will be out. Tomorrow is supposed to be partly cloudy with temps nearing 34*, low of 14*. Saturday, cloudy, high 34*, low of 16*. It's getting to be that time of year when one must say, TIC TOC... Also, as a side note, I have a very busy weekend coming up and it's possible that I may not post again until early next week..... Ride Safe!

(Posted Mon. 02/15/10 @ 11:46AM) We had a extremely heavy sled traffic weekend with the jump in. Groomers were out during the jump in and again on the regular Saturday night runs. Groomers were out again yesterday and we also received about 1" of new snow. Groomers are out again today finishing up and it's snowing as I post!! Mid-week riding should be good to very good. Colder temps would make it even better, hopefully we'll get that so the sugary trails can set up into firmly packed trails!

(Posted 02/10/2010 @ 8:40 AM) We received a bit over 3" of new snow yesterday and into last night with a possibility of a little more snow for today. We are expecting heavy sled traffic again this coming weekend with the Lion Club Pancake Breakfast at Hill's Still & the Jump In at Jerry Schuh's this coming Saturday. Trails are reportedly in good condition with a flat, froze base. Happy Riding!

(Posted 02/07/2010 @ 1:20 PM) We had a bit of a warm up than earlier predicted this past Friday and heavy sled traffic on Friday and Saturday. Groomers were out again last night and lows were in the single digits overnight. They are predicting some snow for early this week. We are expecting heavy sled traffic again this coming weekend with the Lion Club Pancake Breakfast at Hill's Still & the Jump In at Jerry Schuh's this coming Saturday. Trails are reportedly in good condition.

(Posted Tues. Feb. 02, 2010 @ 8:00 PM) TPSC trails are holding up very well! All trails are groomed, flat and froze! We have about 1" of new snow and is still snowing as of this posting.

Forecast for tomorrow thru this Saturday is highs in the low to mid 20's with lows in the 11* area. There is also 20 to 30% chance of snow for most days.

(Posted Wed. Jan 27, 2010 @ 11:10 AM) TPSC trails are holding up very well! All trails are groomed, flat and froze! We had a low of -3* last night. It's currently 6* as of this post. Forecast is today high of 9* w/ low of -4*, with a chance of precip 30%.
Thursday high of 5* partly cloudy w/ low of -12*
Friday high of 7* partly cloudy w/ low of -8*
Saturday high of 11* partly cloudy w/ low of -1*

(Posted Mon. Jan 25, 2010 @ 7:33 PM) Yesterday we had warm temps again along with some sleet/snow mix. Not too much accumulation wise. The temps are currently dropping and groomers have been out again as of late this afternoon (and still are out as of this post) to get snow back on the trails as well as making them flat. Temps are supposed to be a low of 9* tonight (currently 25*) So, if it get's as cold as they say the trails should freeze down nicely, so use caution as the trails will be icy. I'm not sure what the high is for Tuesday but Tuesday nights low is supposed to be 12* Not a lot of snow in the forecast as of right now, calling for maybe 2" of new snow this week.

(Posted Sat. Jan 23, 2010 @ 10:15AM) We rode about 130 miles yesterday, for the most part trails were pretty good. By late afternoon, some of the more heavily traveled trails were getting beat up. Overnight temps were 28*. Todays temps are in the low 30's with list mist. Calling for some heavier rain/sleet mix today and sleet/snow mix for Sunday.

(Posted Thurs, Jan 21, 2010 @ 10:08AM) TPSC trails are in good to very good condition. Went for a 80 mile ride yesterday and trails were groomed, flat and frozen! It's partly to mostly cloudy right now with a temp of 22*. Hopefully we'll get snow this weekend as predicted.

(Posted 01/19/10 @ 12:35 PM) All Tombstone Pickerel Trails are groomed and in good condition the woods are good to very good. The trails held up well in recent days with the warm temps. It snowed ever so slight this morning and some reports say we are supposed to get more between now and Saturday. It's cloudy here now with 22*. Low for tonight supposed to be in the teens.

(Posted 01/17/2010) The TPSC Officers and Board of Directors would like to THANK EVERYONE who helped set up and take down, attended, donated food, desserts and raffle items for the Chili Ride In and Poker Run. We hope everyone enjoyed the free chili and hot dogs. We had a well attended turn-out for this event. Thank you again for your continued support.

(Posted 01/17/2010 @ 1:30 PM) Although yesterday was warm and sunny & trails were heavily traveled the groomers were out last night and got done what they could. The trails set up nicely since it was in the teens again last night. At the time of this posting it is sunny and 35*. The good news is the forecast. After today and the long range (10 day) is supposed to be cooler with highs in the mid to upper 20's with a 30% chance of light snow for Monday then another chance of snow for Thursday. So, hopefully mother nature will cooperate with us and send us snow and cold weather. Groomers will be out again when the temps drop in hopes of the snow freezing down.

(Posted 01/16/2010 @ 8:00 AM) We've been pretty lucky the last few days, the highs were 25 & 26 * and cloudy. Now they say today will be high of 32* and Sunday will be high of 35* with sun both days. Lows still in the teens to low 20's. Groomers have been out and snow is a little soft on top but overall the trails are holding up well and currently are in good to very riding condition. With the snow conditions beginning to deteriorate the groomers will still be out and will try to keep up.

(Posted 01/14/2010 @ 7:00 AM) As of today the TPSC Groomers have been out and trails are reported to be in good to very good condition. Forecast is highs in the low 30's (with 32* being the max. on Monday the 18th) for the next 5 days with lows in the teens at night.

(Posted 01/05/2010 @ 7:00 PM) The TPSC Groomers have been out and trails are reported to be in good to very good condition.

Tombstone Pickerel Sno-Club provides a great 130 mile trail system for snowmobiles. When the counties designate that trails are open, you will find our trail segments to be well marked and groomed. Our grooming equipment has been recently upgraded with grooming units that can handle all grooming conditions. If you are a stranger to our area, pick up one of our trail maps which will guide you thru our trail system and show connections to neighboring trail systems in all directions. The map will also show locations of pit stops, trail sponsors, and other facilities to aid you in having an enjoyable experience.

With our fundraising events and donations, the Tombstone-Pickerel Club maintains a status of being an integral part of our community. In the past we have given donations to the Fire & Rescue squad to aid them in updating their equipment such as a defibrillator and a 6 wheel drive rescue unit which is capable of getting to an accident victim on the trails. We also allow other community organizations to use our club house facilities for their special events. Our club also conducts a yearly safety education class for snowmobiling.

The Pickerel area looks forward to having you spend time here!!!
